Every visit, every donation, and every word of support contributes to their cause, helping not just the elephants of Angkor but all elephants in Cambodia.

Nestled in the heart of the Bos Thom Community Forest, the sanctuary is a paradise for more than just elephants. This 1100-acre haven of secondary tropical evergreen forest is teeming with colorful birds, quirky insects, and small mammals. In addition, it’s a source of income for the local community, providing seasonal fruits, wild honey, mushrooms, tubers, and sustainable wood. 

But like many forests, it’s under threat from exploitation and encroachment.

But here’s the silver lining. The sanctuary is fighting back, developing and funding reforestation, survey, and education programs to protect the forest. They’re dreaming of a future where the forest regains its ecological balance, where more animals can be reintroduced, and where the forest cover expands little by little.

The sanctuary is also setting a precedent, retiring the elephants of Angkor and sparking a shift in Cambodia’s perception of elephants. 

They’re hoping to inspire elephant owners across the country to embrace conservation as a viable alternative. 

They’re even pioneering a breeding program to protect the genetic diversity of Cambodia’s elephants.
