We continue to use this as the standard upper limit for the size of small groups because it has consistently been highlighted as an important selling element by all of our client’s testimonials. Because of the frequent positive feedback we’ve received from our guests regarding our ability to handle small groups, we’ve decided that this will be the typical maximum number of people in a group.

Frequently Asked Questions

➤ When was the Banteay Srei temple built?

Banteay Srei is a Hindu temple dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva, established in 967.

You can find the temple approximately 26 kilometers (16 miles) to the northeast of Angkor Thom and approximately 29 kilometers (18 miles) northeast of Angkor Wat.

When compared to the other temples in the Angkor region, the buildings and structures of Banteay Srei are quite small and do not follow the same architectural pattern as the other temples.

Banteay Srei is known by a variety of names, including “the lady temple,” “the tiny temple,” and “the pink temple.” All these names attest to the uniqueness of this undersized gem of a temple, which stands in stark contrast to the massive grandeur of the main Angkorian complex. Banteay Srei (or Banteay Srey) is a contemporary name that means “citadel of the women” or “citadel of beauty.” It was once known as Tribhuvanamahesvara.

The temple was built with red sandstone, which gives it its distinctive pinkish color. That is why Banteay Srei is also known as “The Pink Temple.”

Red sandstone is a building material that may be carved like wood. Banteay Srei is well-known for its ornate decorative wall carvings.

➤ How long does it take to arrive at Banteay Srei?

It takes around half an hour to get there by comfortable minivan from the temples of Angkor, and the ride is very scenic as it passes through villages and fields of rice.

➤ Who built East Mebon Temple and Pre Rup Temple?

During the middle of the 10th century, King Rajendravarman was responsible for the construction of both East Mebon and Pre Rup. The construction of East Mebon, finished in 953 and dedicated to the king’s parents, is located east of the king’s palace of Phimeanakas.

Since East Mebon is located in the center of East Baray, which is no longer wet, it would have been accessible only by boat in the past. Pre Rup was constructed on the Baray’s outskirts and finished in the year 961.

The two temples are commonly referred to as the Twin Temples.

They are built in a style that is comparable to one another, although there are some noteworthy differences between them.

They are older Angkor temples, or more accurately, temple mountains, designed in the Hindu architectural tradition (dedicated to Shiva).

➤ How old is Preah Khan?

In the latter part of the 12th century, an architectural style known as Bayon was used to construct the Preah Khan temple complex. It was originally constructed as a Buddhist monastery and school, and at one point there were more than a thousand monks living there. In addition, King Jayavarman VII called this place home while the construction of the royal capital of Angkor Thom was taking place. The temple of Preah Khan is dedicated to Jayavarman VII’s father, and its architecture is quite similar to that of the Ta Prohm Temple, which was dedicated to Jayavarman VII’s mother.

➤ Who built Preah Khan Temple?

King Jayavarman VII erected Preah Khan in the 12th century to honor his father, King Dharanindravarman II. It was originally a significant temple complex that served as a municipality, a temple, and a Buddhist university all at the same time.

The Preah Khan temple was dedicated to his father by the King, who had already dedicated the Ta Prohm shrine to his mother. Lokeshvara’s statue was fashioned to resemble the King’s father.

Ta Som Temple remains a surprise!
