Frequently Asked Questions

➤ What makes the Bayon Temple stand out from other structures?

The multitude of serene and happy stone faces that can be found on the Bayon’s various towers, which project from the top terrace and cluster around the monument’s central peak, is without a doubt the most distinguishing feature of this historic structure.

➤ Why is the Ta Prohm temple considered to be so important?

One of the temples in Angkor that receives the greatest number of visitors is Ta Prohm. This is due to the allure and enchantment provided by the mix of trees growing out of the ruins and the forest that surrounds the temple. As a direct consequence of this, it is one of the temples that sees the most guests on a daily basis.

It is one of the few Angkorian temples that has been preserved in a state that is relatively similar to the one that it was found in by the early explorers. Ta Prohm is one of the few temples that has been conserved in this manner.

From what we’ve seen, each and every tourist appreciates taking pictures there and soaking up the unique energy that the temple has to offer.

➤ Can you recall watching the movie Tomb Raider?

Where, exactly, did they shoot the Tomb Raider movie? Angkor Wat or Ta Prohm?

At Ta Prohm, scenes from the movie Tomb Raider, which was released in 2001 and starred Angelina Jolie as the character Lara Croft, were filmed.

In one scene, she walks past the towers in the southeast corner, continues along a ruinous corbelled roof section, walks past the iconic tree that has grown out of the enclosure, and then picks a jasmine flower in front of the other iconic tree that frames the enclosure doorway in the central enclosure. Ta Prohm was used as the setting for all of these scenes.

➤ What exactly was the purpose of Ta Prohm?

The Buddhist monastery that is today known as Ta Prohm was originally referred to as Rajavihara, which literally means “Monastery of the King.” Construction on the temple began in 1186 and continued until it was completed.

The temple was named after Jayavarman VII’s mother when it was constructed. It is one of the few temples in the Angkor region that has an inscription, and among the information it provides, you may learn about the people who lived at the temple as well as those who were dependent on it.

It’s a little bit of a maze, so you might find yourself going in the wrong direction or even going backward sometimes, but that’s okay. The vast majority of temples, including this one, have display boards that advise different walking routes, and so does this particular temple.

The highlights of this location include the narrow vertical bas-reliefs that can be found near the entrances, the smiling faces that can be found on the western gate, the lintels and pediments, the overall greatness and appearance, and the incredible trees with their roots that look like reptiles that are taking over the ruins.

Because of this, you will require our local professional tour guide while you are out on the stroll. There is a lot more to study and learn about in this Ta Phrom area.

Angkor Sunset Perfection! Brown’s stories brought the temple ruins to life while Long made sure we stayed refreshed with cold water in his luxury van. They took us down side passages and hidden stairways for exclusive temple views. Watching the sunset from atop Phnom Bakheng hill was the perfect ending to an amazing day thanks to Long and Brown’s expertise. Can’t imagine a better Angkor Wat sunset experience than what this tour delivered!

  2. Nicholas

Long and Brown Made Our Angkor Sunset Dreams Come True! My wife and I did the Private Angkor Wat Sunset Tour with our wonderful guides Long and Brown. Their depth of knowledge and passion for the temples was incredible. Mr. Long safely transported us between sites in an air-conditioned luxury van while Mr. Brown guided us through Angkor’s jungle corridors and explained the intricacies of each carving. They timed everything perfectly so we saw the sunset from Phnom Bakheng hill with few crowds, but we understand that this is a favored place to view the sunsets. Having Long and Brown customize and personalize our time exploring the temples made this a 5-star Angkor Wat sunset experience.

  3. Ben Zammit

Legendary Angkor Sunset Delivered! My expectations were exceeded for this Private Angkor Wat Sunset Tour. Our guide Brown customized our temple itinerary perfectly based on our interests in archaeology and photography. He timed our visit to Bayon temple for the golden hour glow which resulted in my all-time favorite travel photos! Brown’s connections got us special monk chat and sunset hill access. The sunset views of Angkor Wat were insanely beautiful – So Instagrammable! This was truly the most memorable and crowd-free Angkor Wat sunset experience. Worth every penny

  4. Damien Wilkinson

    Outstanding Tour and Guide.
Because this was our first time seeing Angkor Wat, our tour guide Chean and our driver went above and above to ensure that we had a memorable experience. My experience with Chean as a tour guide ranks him among the most knowledgeable and enthusiastic I’ve ever had. It is incredible how well he understands the history of Cambodia and Angkor, as well as religion, politics, architecture, and ethnography. His English is a very top-notch. And on top of that, he is a very humorous man. I have complete confidence in recommending him to any traveler whose primary language is English. Because Chean was our guide, we were able to gain an incredible amount of information about the temples and the Angkor complex!

  5. Marina Bandy

Our visit of Angkor, which was led by both our guide and our driver, was quite enjoyable. We were able to view the highlights, understand each location’s history and religion, and tailor the experience along the way to meet our family’s needs. Fantastic tour!

  6. Kristina Lugs

We had a wonderful experience on our one-day sunset trip to Angkor with MySiemReaptours, and it’s definitely something we won’t forget in a hurry! The communication that took place via WhatsApp and email during the process of booking was really swift and professional, and all of the specifics were made apparent and confirmed well in advance of the trip date. The tour was incredible, particularly the part where we got to view the temples and learn about their history. We had a wonderful guide who was highly informed not just about Angkor and its history but also about Cambodia, both in the past and in the present. His English was flawless, he was conversational, and he was very knowledgeable. In addition to that, he led us along routes and gave us an itinerary that kept us away from the majority of the people, which made the day go off without a hitch. We would love to arrange another trip with MySiemReaptours and are looking forward to returning to Siem Reap in the future.
